Ball Cemetery
George County, Mississippi
Start your trip to this cemetery in downtown Lucedale, Mississippi.
Take highway 98 west out of town going 4.7 miles. Here you will find
the intersection with highway 98 by-pass. Take a left (west) onto
highway 98 towards Hattiesburg, Mississippi, going about 2.5 miles. You
will cross a small bridge on the highway and immediately on your left
will be McInnis Lane. Take this left hand turn and go about .2 tenths
of a mile where this cemetery will be located on your left. The
cemetery is well kept and located in a small open field. In speaking
with the landowner J.W. McInnis, he, stated at one time the cemetery
was much larger. Years ago in clearing the land someone pushed a lot of
the headstones down into a marshy branch. Also he stated that a group
of visitors had visited the cemetery years ago and had a dedication
ceremony honoring Charlotte (Lee) Ball, they said she was the sister to
Gen. Robert E. Lee. This information has not been authenticated as of
today. Jimmy Trussell walked this cemetery taking information from the
headstone inscriptions. This property is on a part of what is called
the Horace McInnis homestead, he was the father of J.W. McInnis.

Pierce Cemetery
George County, Mississippi
Start your trip to this cemetery at the Agricola Baptist Church in
downtown Agricola, Mississippi. Looking south from the parking lot you
will see this cemetery as well as the Agricola Cemetery a short ways
down the small blacktop road. This road is the Harmon Pope Road, go
down it .2 tenths of a mile and there is a parking place near the chain
link fence which surrounds the Agricola Cemetery. This is a small
private family cemetery, but I was told by the owner Mike Pierce, that
at a future date it will be merged into the Agricola cemetery, and then
will become a part of that cemetery. The cemetery was in very good
condition, however there is one unmarked grave, the paper from the
temporary grave marker was missing. Jimmy Trussell walked this cemetery
on the 7th of January 2009, information being gathered from headstone
inscriptions.

C.F. Ward Cemetery
George County, Mississippi
Take highway 98 East out of Lucedale, Mississippi. You will go
approximately 9 miles, you will see the large river bridge in front of
you, and just before you start up on the bridge there is a road on your
right. This is the Agricola/Latonia Road, take this right hand turn and
proceed .7 tenths of a mile. You will have just crossed over a
railroad and then a small concrete bridge. When you cross the bridge
there is a dirt road on your left, turn onto this dirt road. You will
have a locked gate across this road, and the key must be obtained from
the land owner. Once the gate has been opened you will then stay on
this dirt road for about 1.2 miles. The cemetery is about 40 yards off
the side of the main dirt road. There is a partial fence left on two
sides of what appears to be a small family cemetery. The story has it
that there were at one time 7 graves in this cemetery. Jimmy Trussell
and Jeff Howell (the landowner) walked this cemetery on the 16th of
December 2008, and the information was taken from the only two
remaining headstones.

Caleb Monroe Howell Family Cemetery
George County, Mississippi
Leave Lucedale, Mississippi on highway 26 west. Go 5.1 miles and there
will be an intersection with Henry Howell Loop Road on your left. Take
this left turn and go .1 tenth of a mile where this road will split.
You will take the right and go another .3 tenths of a mile. Here there
will be a brick house with a concrete driveway on your right. You must
enter this driveway to access the cemetery, however this is private
property and permission should be secured before you visit the
cemetery. Behind the house is a barn and if you look past the barn
about 300 yards you will see a small chain link fenced in area. The
land behind the barn is property of another landowner and you need
permission also to cross it to the cemetery. This is what seems to be a
forgotten family cemetery, and there has been no maintenance done to it
in several years. It was hard to even find the slabs and stones in all
the heavy underbrush. The transcription I am submitting for this
cemetery was done in 1972 by Mrs. Ann Howell, prior to her death. She
did a lot of hard work saving our cemetery information for many years.
I am lucky to have been given some of this information and in it was
able to find her notes on this cemetery. The day I walked this cemetery
the stones and slabs were so deteriorated I wasn’t able to get enough
readable information to have been able to submit the cemetery. Jimmy
Trussell is submitting this information for Mrs. Ann Howell, who took
the information off of four concrete slabs and two very small infant
type headstones.

Basin-Refuge
Road Cemetery
George County, Mississippi
Take Old Highway 63 south out of Lucedale, Mississippi and go 4.1
miles. Here you will dead end into the highway 63 by-pass, turn left
(south) onto this highway.
Now you will go another 1.8 miles where the
intersection with Basin-Refuge road will be on your right. Take this
right hand turn and go 1.5 miles, on your left will be
Refuge Methodist
Church and cemetery. Directly across the road from the back fence of
the Refuge Cemetery you will notice an old driveway. This at one time
was the
access to a gate going into the large field, the gate has been
removed and barbed wire installed in its place. Looking out into this
field you will see a small wooded area with
a large tree in it, this is
the cemetery contained in this transcription. There is a barbed wire
fence surrounding this small partial of woods. You must get
permission from
the landowner to enter the field as it is located on
private property. Jimmy Trussell and Marshall Stevens walked this
cemetery on the 12th of January 2009. there was only
one headstone in
the cemetery. There are five concrete slabs in addition to the
headstone located in the cemetery. Closer inspection of these slabs
produced no markings
of any kind that would help identify those buried
here.
